The Iberians were the original inhabitants of the Iberian Peninsula and are venerated to this day among the Spanish and Portuguese.
No one really knows when the Iberians appeared as a people, though first contact with them came in 1100 B.C. with the establishment of a trading post by the Phoenicians. They were a relatively peaceful culture, and when they fought it fighting in other's battles as mercenaries. When they fought their won battle, they proved tenacious when Rome sought to take their land and freedom away from them. Yet, the Iberians were put in submission once and for all by the Romans in 18 B.C. The Iberians were most active during the Punic Wars and during the various rebellions against Roman rule. Some famous Iberians were: Viriato of the Lusitani, Caros of the Belli, and Indibil of the Ilegetes. Some of the most famous rebellions of the Iberians were: the seven Campaigns of Viriato, the guerilla War of the Belli, and lastly the second Rebellion of the Ilegetes.
An interesting fact about the Iberians was that they invented the concept of guerilla warfare and used it to great effect against Rome. The Iberians were also great metal workers, famous for their “western steel”.
In 0 A.D. the Iberians will be a predominantly defensive civilisation, with a special “Tactica Guerilla” ability for some units, and a great cavalry. |
