We implemented a feature on the 0 A.D. main page called the "Revision Log." It is an old feature we had running on the site a few years ago. It got broken when we switched servers, but we decided to put it back onto the site this weekend to show our fans what kind of daily progress we are making on the game. Do you guys think it's cool??? ;)

I remember that! I like it. It's good to see it back.

How can I understand "Updated public SVN logger"?

There will be public svn repository?

Will 0AD be OSS?

0 A.D. will eventually be Open Source. Soon actually. What I mean by soon is on the order of months, not years. ;)

As Michael said we have every intention of making 0 A.D. OS, and making the SVN repository public (though we will keep some of the Art internal until the game is finished). "Updated public SVN logger" refers to the log on the 0 A.D. site though, at least as far as I know.

Excellent.

I'll try to do packages for openSUSE when it is available.

Little advertisement on website of Czech Linux community won't hurt, too.

BTW, I like revision log. I put atom to my RSS reader. Thank you for that.

Sounds good ;)

Please be aware however that our current plan doesn't involve making a binary version available at this time. That doesn't mean that we'll forbid anyone else to do it, but it means that this first release is mainly intended for OS developers and that we won't support the game in any way until we deem it ready enough. That's not due to us being evil, it's just that since the game is far from being polished the priority is to get the game closer to what we want it to be, not to reply every feature request or question about why the game doesn't do this or that yet (y)

EDIT: Thanks for liking the revision log

Yep - it was some small updates to the code that generates the public revision log on the site, to make it work on the new servers. Also it was an opportunity to test that that code picked up the revision messages and regenerated the log properly ;)

No new info perhaps? =) Cannot say we have an awful lot of programmers, and the programmers who are part of the team aren't able to be as active as before or too new to be able to do much all the time (there's a pretty steep learning curve with a project this size after all  ). And also Michael, who's been most active of the non-programmers in committing are having computer troubles. But sure, it's sad that things aren't happening faster ;)

Yeah, there would be a lot more revisions, if it weren't for my computer refusing to boot.

PS: Also, not all revisions are logged in the public logger, so there has most likely been more revisions than the public logger indicates. ;)

But if you have svn repository, you most probably have it on some server.

If you commit to svn, you use command

svn ci -m "Comment"

And "Comment" could be exported to rss automaticall. I don't find this that impossible.

The revision log feed is generated automatically from those SVN commit messages, but it doesn't include the whole of each message - the messages sometimes have technical details that won't make sense to anyone other than WFG programmers (e.g. "Adding the m_base check"), or links to private forums, or verbose descriptions that are informative to the developers but that nobody else will care about, and so on. So, to make it more appropriate for the kinds of people who will typically be looking at the revision log on our web site, only lines explicitly prefixed with '#' in the commit message are displayed in the public log, and we try to put simple short vaguely-understandable messages in there so that people can get some idea of what we're working on.
