We have a new concept artist on team, Luis F. Bejarano (here he goes by the name Nolofinwë). He has already begun work on the Noldor so expect to see some awesome pictures in the future.

Here's his first image for TLA:

That really is a nice drawing, good work.
I was thinking about being a concept artist but my drawings arent as good as Nolofinwes but I might make some for the fan art section.

Sweet job Luis! Welcome to the TLA (although I'm 0 AD ;)) fold and WFG!

Forgive my ignorance, but this is a Noldor or a Numenorean (sp?)? Nice sword too ;) Based on Gandalf's from the movies?

I do not believe so. The movie's take on Glamdring had a curved guard engraved with runes, and the forte of the blade was curved too.

But Glamdring was one of my favorite designs from the movie ;)

Holy sh** .. This is an awesome Noldo fighter. ... wow, that is outstanding. However, I think that some computer editing would be needed to remove those unpleasant lines here and there scattered around the character.
Apart from that, simply awesome.

This is amazing! This is my vision of a Noldo, except the shield (that I imagined to be iron-shaped (like in to iron your clothes)), and the helmet (which really is better than my vision of the Noldor). Awasome picture of Gil-Galad on your site too, as well as the one of Feanor. I really look foreward to your next piece of drawing!!

Oh... The handle of the sword is a bit strange, a bit too thin, it would be very easy to beat out of your hand, and that would be unpleasant. For the rest your drawing is perfect! Really love your work!

Such a shield might make it difficult for a Noldorin Swordsman to fight - but expect to see a Noldorin Spearman - the Sentinel, wielding such a shield as you describe.

Hello and a warm welcome from me to you Luis ;)! The TLA drawing is great, but the drawings I saw at your site are amazing!!!

The piece of art where Fingolfin battles Morgoth is incredible! I noticed that the more I grow up, the less I get scared by pictures/movies, but when I look at that battle it really gives me shivers (check Morgoth's armor and hammer!). That's what I call an evil and scary vilian! And Fingolfin has been done greatly. I especially like the way you depicted his emblem on his shield. That's a piece of art that I think looks better in black and white, then it would ever look in color. If TLA ever needed art for a Dvd-like box, I imagine the battle of Elendil and Gil-galad against Sauron with the same grim atmosphere.

You have great talent ;).

Well, historicly all knights in Europe used such shields, and not round ones, but the round shield indeed fits this Noldorin swordsman better than an iron-shaped shield...

So what are the (technical) differences between a round and a 'iron-shaped' shield? Does it matter what kind of shield I would have as a soldier?

Matteo (rohirwine) would know the best answers to this since this is what he studies and what he does for TLA.

From my limited knowledge, I think the reason in history the "Kite" Shield evolved was because it was used by Mounted Knights, and it had to be elongated to cover their shield side from attack. Then they began to put heraldic devices on their shields and the design stuck.

In Middle-earth, it's possible that the same development occured. Tolkien was certainly in love with Heraldry.

Adam you are partly right on the shield thing. The shield developed in a number of areas commonly going from the larger round or oblong shield to smaller heater or tear drop shield and of course the tower and kite shields. The Normans were most famous for carrying the kite shield where the Byzantines carried the tear drop or almond shield. The Byzantines used more archery than did the Normans, but used similar types of shields although somewhat smaller. The kite shield slowly shrunk down to the heater shield as armour improved. (this is a very quick and brutal synopsis - so not an indepth study ;) )

Welcome and congratulations Luis, i hope to see more works from you in the future. Your Noldorin helm is really good, far better than my designs...

But, as always, we are here to criticise and improve through that criticism :P

I would consider changing his breastplate to a mail shirt personally, and maybe remove that bladelike decoration from the back of the helmet...it looks a little too PJ for my liking (at least it isn't green & gold :P ). The sword's handle is a little delicate too.

Hmm, think ill have a go at a Noldor Swordsman myself...if we get enough submissions maybe we can get the fan art section up.
