As for crossbows-shortbows, i prefer the latter, but things are still in progress and i'm not sure bowmen will be included (at least in FA dwarven hosts).
It is inconcievable that the Dwarves would not be able to field forces with ranged weapons, and bows only make sense, particularly given that we know that they used them!

And please, forget about darts too (it either sounds too much AD&D or "Let's have some nice Pub evening with friends"... )
Well, the word "dart" is used frequently both by Tolkien and by the King James translation of the Old Testament, so I think that you can be perfectly justified in using the term as a non-D&D term. "Darts" to Tolkien seem to imply an arrow-like projectile, and for the most part seems to mean arrows, although one might suggest that "darts" could also include things like crossbow bolts or even ballista javelins. Tolkien likewise used the word "shot" seemingly to refer to any projectile weapon, including, among other things, the heads of the soldiers who fell at Osgiliath that Sauron's armies catapulted into Minas Tirith as a morale-buster. Ordinarily, a dart connotes a thrown weapon of some kind, and shot is ordinarily used to refer to musketballs - neither of which are impossible to imagine in Tolkien's world, but there certainly are other kinds of projectiles that certainly are used and which he used these terms to refer to.
