What kind of game is it?

I just saw this, and i was wondering if this is an MMORPG like World of Warcraft or a CIV game like AoE III?

It was originally supposed to be a civilization-building RTS similar to the AoE series, but at the moment, the plans for the first release sound more like a tactical RTS like Myth...

It's the sister game to 0AD.

They will both run off the same engine. With subtle variations.
The magic is more lore based, in that is not super-visible, and acts more like morale.

Not sure - I don't think there will be anything akin to the God-Powers of AoM, and similarly there will be few or no myth units. I think the plan instead is to have magic-users be in the vicinity of non-magic-users giving them increased stats, healing, and the like. I also wonder if there are going to be things like the bonuses that wonders generate in Rise of Nations.

So this will be a mod to 0 AD, does that mean you would have to download 0AD first in order to get this?

I don't think so as they intend to do quite big modifications if I've understood it correctly, I guess that depends a bit upon how much resources they will have in the form of programmers to though.

So it's a separate download, so you won't need 0 AD installed to download it?

That's for certain AFAIK yes, I'm not as certain about whether or not one will have to download the engine etc if one already has got 0 A.D. installed, but TLA will be available as a download of its own as far as I know. (Whether there will be any game at all is dependent on whether people want to spend time on it though, and that is something that other people will have to be certain about, because I'm not =) And no that's not a hint about the team behind TLA, if anything it's a hint that interested people should get more involved

)
