Hello.

At the moment sending units to a building takes some time, because you have to click on the tiny icon before clicking on the building.
This can be improved by giving the same possibility when hovering with the mouse over a building.
I suggest to implement it with a double-click, and changing mouse cursor.

Just press Ctrl then right-click on a building and you will garrison the unit/units ;) No need to click icons :)

You can garrison units without the need to click on the garrison button. Just hold down "Ctrl" and hover the mouse over a tower or something. The cursor then changes to a garrison one, and right-clicking sends the units inside.

Could there be a bell system to call in the villager-type units into the closes building when you're being attacked?

It's thought about but not that easy to implement or even make a clean concept for it since there are female citizens and citizen soldiers.
Some threads about that:

Right, seems a simple thing to make just the females garrison due to a town bell, while the men remain outside to fight back. It's easy enough to do, once a decision is made on what should occur when the bell is rung.

One bell for just Women, and another bell button for Women and Civilian-Soldiers only.

Having the town bell make garrison females only would sometimes make you loose a battle if your citizen soldiers loose the battle outside the civil center and the civil center does not deal enough damage before it is destroyed. Garrisoning only the citizen soldiers may perhaps lead to earlier deaths at your side (females) but may lead to a victory of yours because citizen soldiers add damage to the civil centre and the civil centers high armor and health/structural points protect your damage dealing units. So in the second case you'd loose less.
