What kind of eye candy do you think we should include in the map editor?

- Realistic ruins (Some of them overgrown, some covered by sand) of buildings that are actually in the game.
- Realistic ruins of buildings that were actually there, but not in the game
- collapsed carts, siege machines and the like
- A lot of random architecture things like columns and statues. (Even for civs not in the game, such as Egyptians)
- About the same things that were in AoE, AoK and probably stuff the designers of the original scenarios will demand (They are the first ones with practical experience, so they know what they need).

As long as its a easy-use editor, i dont care to much about the things that are in the editor, as long as its normal stuff are included!

I agree with Marcus. It should include a lot of random, misc stuff so map creators have a lot of flexibility in designing maps for scenarios, etc.

Maybe, the objects in the map editor could be seperated by categories, i.e. "Egyptian objects", "Greek objects", "Misc. Ruins", etc.

- "Useless" buildings ie. those that serve no purpose except for eyecandy and can't be made in-game, like shrines, baths, graves, and houses for the rich.
- Dead bodies and bones.
- Everything else mentioned.

Thats a need. One problem i had with AoM is the units/embellishments/etc. weren't organized very well, imo. AoK had that prob too. Maybe a tree structure, and/or the user can customize it so its ordered by civ or by type (building, unit, object, etc.) or by a whole list, and more.

As for eyecandy (since that is the topic at hand), scroll through all the main games (AoK/M, EE, RoN, WC3, etc) and find the best eyecandy of them all. And please, if you make a bridge, make it walkable unlike the AoM one ;)

More eyecandy, the better. Never enough in any RTS game. ;) Apart from the standard stuff, you can expect, like for AoE and AoK, that people will want to make historical scenarios based on the period with 0AD with the editor. Things like well-made tents/camp equipment, palisade walls, palisade towers (for Romans), various flags, small bridges, market stalls, etc.

Yes, i agree with Code, it has to be organized, like the Battlefield 1942 editor, BattleCraft 1942!

The thing is guys we need to complete our list of stuff. So when you say lots of "stuff' thats kind of vague ;)

I'm looking for things like what Marcus was saying up above. I need names of actual items if you can ;)

OK, I agree that the lists have some good stuff in them... but what I'd like to see ya'll do now is go back over your lists and for each item (that you are serious about) add a short description of what exactly it is that you envision... since if it gets onto the real list of specifications in the DD somebody is gonna have to do the artwork for it.

So, if you really wanna see something in the game let's see a lil motivation to 'specify'. ;)

Frex, Fountains.... lol... what fountains, Trevi, the waterfountain in your school's hallway? Now I'm being a little facetious but to make a point, and we don't want to assume that someone else knows exactly what is being spoken to even if an item is rather common, and since Fountains, as the example I'm using, is plural, then one would presume that there would be more than one... so how about editing your threads to do something like this:

-------------------------------------

Fountain1 (simple fountain with base pool and water spouting up in a vertical centre spume then falling back to pool, eye candy, animated)
Fountain2 (2-tiered fountain having ornate base pool and 2 catch basins on centre column above with water falling back to pool below from each, eye candy, animated)

--------------------------------------

Specifying if eye candy so is known that is not a consumable item and animated if appropriate to the object.

You do that an the artist will have a good idea of what it IS (so will everyone else). So, let's see if we can't do a little 'separating the men from the boyz' here, eh? ;)

How about tree roots? Also, there really should be stones you can use in the editor to simulate a dam, or an avalanche.

No good effects list is complete without Lightning Bolts (Animated) I say, complete with it's flash. I'm suprised that hasen't been suggested yet.
