a tad of fun in the development forum:

brainstorm cheat codes, what they do, and what you type in to get them working-

eg: Umbrella-Hai (gives trolls pink umbrellas, stopping them from turning to stone in sunlight.

I think that Adam replyed already to the Umbrella-Hai idea (not enough Tolkien compliant), maybe the Mandos one is more feasible...

This may not be Tolkien compliant, but could I make a cameo as a cheat unit?

Please........ :P

Well, this does not depend from me, imho this is to be discussed with the GD dep., and in any case Adam will surely take care of it.

Or a flying Nazgul, or a Dragon, or Ent, or Eagle (if they aren't in the game already)

At least some kind of an airforce (maybe even an F16 or B2)

Well the Troll idea isn't that bad. The umbrellas just shouldn't be pink :P.

Now my idea for a cheat code:

To win a scenario: type the code and then show a Vala (Manwë on land, Ulmo on water and Melkor for the baddies) that does something to cleanse the land of enemies:

Manwë creates a huge storm
Ulmo washes the land clean
Melkor creates a huge earthquake

Melkor creates the earthquake with Grond ofcourse. Like Gimli with the 'Sunder' ability in War of the Ring

@Anco: Methinks the "auto-win" cheat should just automaticaly make your side win, nothing fancy like having Morgoth or the Valar appear. Cheats aren't worth having to make excessive special code just for it. :P

@Thingol: I'm sure everything you mentioned in post 7 will already be in the game.

Yes you're right about that Randy, but would that code really be excessive, because most likely those characters will be in the game already?

But I agree that having fancy cheats should be at a very low priority.

Well the characters may very well be in TLA as Heros, but the attacks they use to wipe out entire civs will have to be created from scratch. :P So in the end, it still isn't worth it.

What about the F16-idea? Or is that also in the game already?

That will obviously not be a non-cheat unit, thus has a very low chance of being a cheat, sorry. :P Most likely the only pure cheat units that have a chance of making it are cameos of staff members.

Hmm that brings me to an idea: would it be possible to import small photos as picture for a hero unit? I understand that there is already the idea for a "hero-editor" where people can "dress-up" (bleh, makes me think of Barbie dolls :P) heroes?

Would be nice to create a powerful Numenorian Knight with my own picture, hehe :P.

I don't think that's necessary for what our project goals are.

However, the game can be modded, so you could do this then.

I'm new here, and I actually got an account just for this thread. Anyway, the project looks like it's coming along very quickly for something of this magnitude, and I thought I'd contribute a little. So, Here are my proposed cheat codes.

Wrath of the Valar - All Foe's units and buildings destroyed.

Valaquenta - A random Vala or Maia appears at a Great Hall.

Ambarkanta - Reveals full map, removes Fog of War or this game's equivalent.

Spring of Arda - 1000 of all resources available to the civ being played.

Grond - Siege weapons become triple powered.

Laer Cu Beleg - Morale boost for all units, Bow-users become double powered.

Aure Entuluva - Morale boost for all units, Axe-users become double powered.

The End of Days - All units on map are destroyed, player loses
All worlds begin in darkness, and all so end. - Ansem, Kingdom Hearts.
I know all that there is to know. - Same as above.
Every light must fade, every Heart return to darkness! - Again, same guy.
One who knows nothing can understand nothing. - You getting the idea?

What do ya know, tis another fan of the Dark Powers. ;) Surely you didn't drop by here just to suggest cheats? We'd like it when members sign up and become regular posters. ;)

At any rate, my perferance for cheat names is that they don't use any of Tolkien's languages unless the average Tolkien fan can spell the words. Cheats are easier to learn for me if they are not complicated to spell out. :P

Well, this thread is what got me to get an acount. But I should be posting on a semi-regular basis, if there's anything that interests me. As for the cheats, the only ones that might be hard for the average Tolkien reader to spell are, in my opinion, Aure Entuluva and Laer Cu Beleg. But I've got a few more:

Mormegil - Turin Turambar appears at Great Hall, all sword users gain double power.

The Curse of Hurin - Reveals entire map, Fog of War stays.

Vingilot - Vingilot appears at a random Dock, double power to all Ships.

Thorondor - Thorondor appears at Great Hall, double power to all flying units.

P.S. Dark Powers are the best. You get to use the power for yourself, none of that charity and kindness crap. Of course, you're destined to lose to the Light Powers, but my solution is to just not piss them off. Leave them and their sentient subjects alone, and you shoul be just fine for a while.
