Did you know that Narnia will use ILM for visual effects, so we will get a showdown between Weta (Kong) and ILM (Narnia) on Oscar night. Of course, Weta Workshop is doing special effects (non-digital) for both films, but we'll get a good showdown next february for digital effects at least.
Any other intensive visual effect movie that might compete (I'm guessing War of the Worlds). I would be surprised if Potter shows up.

Wow, there's a lot of historical movies coming. It's great that ancient history/action/epic movies are "in" now - even if the films mangle real history here and there 
Hmm - I wasn't aware that ILM was doing Chronicles of Narnia. (I thought Weta was doing all the effects) Interesting... really looking forward to that film!

Minotaur is some sort of retelling of the Theseus myth sans the literary hero and a monster. Has something to do with Minoan soldiers wearing horned helmets and a bull-king or something Sounds kind of like 13th Warrior in a way 
Forgot about the 300 Don't know how I feel about that though, I'd much rather have a Gates of Fire movie be made rather then history according to Frank Miller

I don't know, it doesn't seem that bad... But it doesn't really sell the movie (other than say, hey remember that cool Zorro movie, we have a sequel coming).

Got another couple of sword movies for you:
The Northmen (2006) - Has Vikings so it has to have a sword fight, even if it is a bit of a romance/drama. Can't have Vikings without at least one duel
