I wonder if the civilazation that depicts the Dwarves of Durin's race should be named 'Dwarves' ingame (see this link). Isn't that a bit to generalised? As far as I understand, the civilization only depicts the Longbeards (Durin's descendants) in the game, so it's not the representation of the whole race of Dwarves.
Comments, thought?

I was of the feeling that Nogrod and Belegost were not of the Longbeards, but that was merely my impression. Certainly Nogrod and Belegost were independent from Khazad-dûm, and Khazad-dûm was less than eager to leap their aid. The Naugmalir incident involved bad behavior both on the part of Thingol and the Dwarves, and Durin did not seek revenge and march on Beleriand when Beren gave the Nogrod Drwarves their comuppance.

you can be sure that we will correctly depict the Seven Houses of the Dwarves (Longbeards, Firebeards, Broadbeams, Ironfists, Stiffbeards, Blacklocks and Stonefoots)

well yes and no ... you see it's about the whole civilisation as opposed to single 'Houses'
when you choose a civ you will be able to pick a specific House that is of that civ.
e.g. taking a quick glance at the First Age of the Sun:
Noldor -> House of Fingolfin / Finarfin / Fëanor ...
Dwarves -> Longbeards / Broadbeams ...
Edain -> House of Bëor / Hador ...
each individual faction within a civ will get it's unique symbol - but they are still of the same race and thus share the same characteristics.
although some stats (e.g. your diplomatic standing with others) might be different (e.g. Sons of Fëanor have a worse standing with Thingol's Sindar than say the Sons of Finarfin ...)

Good idea - although, of course, human players will be able to decide whom they are allies of and whom they want to war with. Three problems:
1. Most of the major civilizations of each Age are, shall we say, "good guys". Melkor and Sauron's forces should get some benefits from having universally lousy diplomatic relations.
2. We still should want to open up the possibility for different civilizations in other versions of the Sil, since nothing in the Sil is truly canon, per se. I suggest, for instance, a House of Egnor for the Noldor.
3. Some houses are going to look quite different in their architecture and style. Even in the Sil, for isntance, the House of Bëor are going to live in wooden buildings much more than the House of Hador...

I believe that the forces of Darkness (Morgoth and Sauron) will be able to enslave and dominate minor civilizations rather than building good relations with them, also the Forces of Morgoth and Sauron will include the most powerful units in the game.
I think that playing as the one of the Good factions will require a careful balance of development, warfare, and diplomacy, while playing as the evil factions will be much more straight foward (enslave who you can, kill the rest).
