Perhaps Islamic Arabs? They were around that timeframe I belive. They would have the best ironworkers, so that means very high attack! However, most didn't wear very much armor...

I completely agree with the AOE thing. there has been no good game that does those ancient civs any credit since then. Even AOE has been lacking in diversity.

Islam didnt come into play well after the fall of Rome, which is outside the scope of our game. :P

However if we were to do a highly unlikely Dark Age addon, Islamic Arabs and Turks would be major opponents of Rome's protege, the Byzantine Empire. Although frankly after Part II we will all be looking for something new to do :P

I think you should still keep in the history theme, even if you don't make another RTS. :P

A history based RPG or platform game would be cool... wink wink.

My Russian patrioticness is showing :P

The Etruscans!
Greed has poisoned men's souls, has barricaded the world with hate,
has goos-stepped us into misery and bloodshed.
We have developed speed, but we have shut ourselves in,
Machinery that gives abundance has left us in want.
Our knowledge has made us cynical, our cleverness hard and unkind.
We think to much and feel to little.
More than machinery, we need humanity,
more than cleverness, we need kindness and gentleness.

Perhaps Mauryan Indians for the early period, and Guptas for the late period?

I think that would be a little outside our timeperiod. :P

Definately a good choice for a future "content addon pack." We've (Paul and I) have batted around ideas for a Diadachi / Macedonia hybrid civ.

The Etruscans!

They'd be a sweet civ. ;) I have yet to see them prominently in any RTS.

I'm afraid the scope of our game doesn't really include the Indians, no matter how cool they are. We're including civs that effected Rome in both parts of our game's time periods. Part 1 is 500BC - 1BC and the Indians had little to virtually no contact with Rome at this time. :D Indians would be a sweet civ for an AOE1 Redux though. :)

Well, Indians had alot to do with the Persians and Hellenes. If not indians, steppe nomads could be fun. A scytho-sarmatian faction could do, that splits into either the Saka or the Sarmatians. Saka would have better infantry, and limited elephant use, and Sarmatians could be really good skirmishers and horse archers. I'd even be willing to learn how to model and program just to have these put in-game. Lol.

Actually, it'll be so easy to mod this game you'll be able to add a new civ within a month of the game's release. ;)

Fantastic. Will I actually be able to add them, or will they just replace another?

With the nature of the game and how we are constructing the game, you should be able to add entire civilizations at-will, or replace existing ones if you wish. I think it'd be better to just ADD another civilisation since then it won't cause multiplayer issues for those who download your mod. ;)

I think maybe someone else could give you a better answer, but I am sure I am correct. :)

AOE1 Redux though. ;)

Just curious, but what is it? I liked AoE1 and 2 much indeed. This is some mod, extension or simply something virtual what doesnt exist but would be cool to be more than just an idea?

The AOE1 Redux is just an idea. Here's some ideas me and other people have put together for one.

Yep, very excellent AOE1 remake thread there at AOE3 Heaven. ;) I like most of the ideas presented. Cool thing is, Indians are included, as AOE1 had a broader scope than 0 A.D. does (for better and for worse).

Carthage are already in 0AD, the Phoenecians were a power but not quite to the extent of the 6 other civs, as far as military goes.
