Position: 3D Artist

Name:
Rob Hubbard
Email:

MSN Messenger:
robhubb@hotmail.com
Location:
Baghdad, Iraq
Availability:
I am deployed right now and will be for another 4 months. Things are fairly slow lately, so I can participate about 2 hours per day, maybe more. After I get back home, I won’t have quite as much free time, but I think could still stay engaged
Age:
26
Occupation:
Air Force Civil Engineer

Skills and Experience:
I first used 3DS Max in 1998 during high school. There I learned how to model and do some basic animation. Loved it, but after I graduated and lost access to the software that was the end of that. I didn't really do much 3D stuff until I found Blender a couple years ago. Now I'm "fairly" proficient in Blender, and what a better way to improve than work on a game (a real game too, not just some half baked, over ambitious project I dream up)? I know you want to see some rendered examples, but unfortunately, I don’t have anything with me on my laptop here in Iraq, so I threw this church model together yesterday so you guys can see my skillz. Hopefully it demonstrates that I can do the basics you guys require.

My animation skills are pretty rusty. I've rigged a few guys in blender, but nothing special. I do know my way around photoshop, although I usually just use paint.net. It's pretty similar to Gimp.

I take a run at trying to learn a programming language every year or so. Recently, I’ve been learning Python, and I must say, it’s best programming experience I have had yet.

My game modding experience started back with Red Alert. I haven’t been too serious about it since then, but I can’t help but tinker around in any AoE game that comes out.

Motivation:
I’ve always wanted to be on a game development team, just never had the time/opportunity to do it before now. Also, I love RTS games, especially ones with War Elephants.
Personality:
I am an INTP, or “Rational Architect” according to David Keirsey’s Temperament theory. I’m very easy going. I get along just fine in groups. And since I’m in the military you can be sure that I’ve had all my shots.

Short Essay:
I was looking for some way to motivate myself to continue modeling, when I came upon your site. I was immediately impressed. Hopefully I will be able to contribute. I really just want to be involved with a real, live project. That, and I have 4 months left on this deployment and need a hobby. I hope to gain a significant boost to my modeling skills by learning from what ever you folks have to teach, and from sheer practice. I want to see the ins and outs of how a game is actually build, and I want to be involved in helping this game along, because it looks really promising (even if you did steal all my ideas).

Interests and Hobbies:
Outdoors stuff - skiing, camping, kayaking, rock climbing, spelunking. Also reading, computer games, board games, and wasting hours on the internet.

Staff:
Nope
Community:
INTP central. That’s about it right now. I’m not playing an MMORPG right now, otherwise I’d put that.
Favorite Game:
Recently: Company of Heros was the last game I really enjoyed.
All time: Asheron’s Call. But how can I not give honorable mention to AoK? Definitely the best RTS of all time, the “Gold Standard” in my opinion.

And it would be a nice adition to have somebody else over 25, and also a modeller, that has to be a good thing.

So, do I just hang out 'till someone emails me? Anything I can do to speed things along? I'm ready to start now...

I tried to add you to my MSN Messenger, but it said you weren't signed up yet. Don't know what's going on there. Add me to your messenger: mythgamer@aol.com (I havent used AOL for 10+ years now, but that's my original .net signup. oh well).
