Position: AI Programmer. I can also do modelling and texturing.

Name:
AAron Mercer
Email:
dementis.silenti@gmail.com
MSN Messenger:
silenti.dementis@hotmail.com
Location:
Fresno, California
Availability:
Excluding something weird, I can submit between five to ten hours, very likely more if I find myself enthralled and/or aggravated by a problem
Age:
21
Occupation:
I do faux finishes and mural work. Lately I have also been selling 3d renders via deviantArt.

Skills and Experience:
I've been experimenting with scripting for several years and have recently learned Age of Mythology's scripting interface. It was very interesting and challenging but I can anticipate more power and possibilities working on an open engine. I also have learned Actionscript 2.0 (example), Maxscript, and rudimentary XS, and after I figure out how this engine is working I will probably be able to contribute quite a bit. My learning curve is usually a couple of weeks.

Motivation:
I'm interested in expanding my scripting skills, especially when it comes to game design. 3d game design has been an interest of mine for at least six years now, but until recently I didn't have the skills to pursue it. I've mastered 3ds Max because of my hopes of making game models and environments, and met a roadblock when I couldn't figure out how to build an engine by myself (haha). I even tried downloading the Irrlicht source and building off that and only managed to get as far as importing 3d models with textures into the screen.. 0 A.D. however has a stable foundation with enough room for new ideas without the impossible problem of making an entire game engine with thousands of models all alone! I figure if anything, my experiments can potentially contribute to your game design, and at worst I just spend some time learning and expanding my skills and the games fan base. Either way, it should be interesting, and that's my main motivation.

Personality:
If I only had two nachos, I'd want a cup of cheese.

Short Essay:
Recently I remembered 0 A.D., a wonderful project that somehow I overlooked at the time (I wasn't much good then anyways, like 3 years ago heh). Open source, open developement, open everything! And it has a team of people many of whom I recognize as polite and inventive people from AoM Heaven, so this place just fits smile.gif

Interests and Hobbies:
I enjoy reading, writing, and drumming. Most of my free time is in the indulgence of the three aforementioned hobbies, and/or crack (just kidding brow.gif ). Otherwise I play around with computer scripting, or play Age of Mythology. I used to play XBox 360 as well but some joker stole it from my house when I was out of town.

Community:
eliskan.deviantart.com - I post a ton of random art here. Lately they've been 3d render commissions for a friend of mine.
aom.heavengames.com - I'm a member there too and sometimes design stuff for scenarios there if I'm motivated.

Favorite Game:
Age of Mythology is my current favorite and I've actually been playing it like five years waiting for a better RTS. I also love those Call of Duty games, and Tom Clancey games. Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow was sweet ohmy.gif

Hey Aaron, welcome and thanks for your interest! I'm sorry about the very late reply, this thread apparently got lost in my browser windows. It's good to see you have been discussing things on the forum in the meantime. However, it looks like a bit more experience is required before digging in. Unfortunately we don't currently have any smaller, self-contained potential tasks, especially because the simulation code is currently in the midst of huge changes. The good news, though, is that a lot more logic will end up implemented in Javascript, so it's a good time to observe, get familiar and possibly assume responsibility for a certain area later smile.gif

Yes I agree I need more skills before fully learning the system, but like you noted now is a good time to get involved before things get too far advanced and I'm left in 0 A.D.'s epic dust sorry.gif

I will be able to help in other areas (like modelling/texturing) until I learn the system a bit more. Once we get some logic in place for controlling and checking units I think the AI won't be too difficult. It usually takes me a little while to get familiar with the system though so give me a week or two before expecting anything code-wise.
